Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement in Murray
Full Sewer Replacement Through Small Access Pits Instead of a Continuous Trench
Our trenchless sewer line replacement service installs a new sewer lateral through small access pits rather than opening a continuous trench across your property. Pipe bursting can replace a failed line when its existing route provides enough access and clearance for the equipment.
Big Brothers Home Services is locally owned and operated, serving Murray and the surrounding Wasatch Front. Our fully licensed and insured team includes background-checked, highly trained technicians. We also provide 24/7 emergency plumbing service for urgent sewer problems.

How Pipe Bursting Replaces a Failed Sewer Line
Hydraulic or pneumatic equipment pulls a cone-shaped bursting head through the existing line. As the head moves forward, it fractures the old pipe outward and draws a new pipe along the same general path.
The replacement is commonly made from high-density polyethylene, or HDPE pipe. It forms a continuous new sewer line that doesn’t depend on the deteriorated pipe for structural support.
This method may be appropriate when an inspection finds:
- Severely deteriorated clay, cast iron, or Orangeburg pipe
- Structural failure that makes a lining repair unsuitable
- Recurring root intrusion caused by failing joints or pipe walls
- A need to increase the pipe diameter where site conditions allow
Pipe upsizing is an important distinction. Cured-in-place pipe lining adds material inside the old line, while bursting can install a larger-diameter pipe when the route, connections, and surrounding conditions permit.
Less Digging Around Landscaping and Hardscaping
Trenchless sewer line replacement generally limits digging to access pits near the ends of the affected run. Open-trench replacement exposes the entire line and may require removing and restoring more soil, grass, plantings, driveway material, or sidewalk.
Access pits still require excavation, but their smaller footprint can preserve more of the landscaping and hardscaping above the sewer lateral.
Our Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Process in Murray
A sewer camera inspection reveals cracks, root intrusion, collapsed areas, bellies, offsets, and other problems. These findings show whether the existing route can accommodate bursting equipment.
A typical project follows this sequence:
- Inspect the line: Review its interior condition and locate the damaged run.
- Confirm the method: Check the alignment, connections, access, and nearby utilities.
- Create access points: Excavate pits at the ends of the section being replaced.
- Install the new line: Pull the bursting head and replacement pipe through the old route.
- Reconnect and close: Complete the required connections and restore the access areas.
When Open-Trench Replacement Is the Better Option
Burial depth and structural damage don’t automatically rule out a trenchless approach, but some conditions do. Severe misalignment, a fully collapsed section with no usable path, restricted equipment access, or conflicts with nearby utilities may require traditional excavation.
Camera findings allow us to compare the available methods against the line’s condition and the layout of the property before recommending an approach.
Pipe Bursting vs. Cured-in-Place Pipe Lining
Pipe bursting replaces a failed line, while cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining repairs it from within. CIPP lining places a resin-saturated liner inside the existing pipe and cures it to form a new interior surface.
Lining can work for a cracked or root-intruded pipe that still holds its shape and can serve as a structural host. Because the liner sits inside the existing line, it slightly reduces the internal diameter.
Replacement may be more appropriate when deterioration, collapse, or the original pipe material makes continued reliance on the old line impractical. The new HDPE pipe takes over the structural function instead of depending on the damaged pipe beneath it.
